Three drums, one signal

The drum switch re-inks the plates and panels of every page. Text, layout and artwork never change. Your choice and the registration stay with this tab until you close it; Reset puts the first drum back.

Printed in Fringe: magenta, cyan and key blue, registration 3 px.

  1. Fringe

    • plate 2 · cyan #2fa9d9
    • plate 1 · magenta #e0389c
    • key · key blue #3255a4

An interpretation of the saturated band of the glitch pieces.

  2. Muted

    • plate 2 · pale ochre #d9b45a
    • plate 1 · mauve #9a5f8a
    • key · oxidized green #3d6650

An interpretation of the muted band of all eleven pieces.

  3. Bloom

    • plate 2 · acid #f5fa49
    • plate 1 · pink #f64caa
    • key · cobalt #2523c9

The Brutal Bloom inks of the first prototype.

Method: the eleven pieces were converted to sRGB, downscaled to 240 px and binned into hue families in two bands, saturated (S > 0.45) and muted (S 0.15–0.45). Each drum is an interpretation of one reading, adjusted to print on paper, not a sampled pixel. The signal, vermilion #ee4423, marks one thing in each drawing and, in the interface, only state.

House rules

Text is ink
Reading text is set in ink on paper, or in paper on the dark bed. Drum inks print drawings and panels, never words.
One signal
Vermilion marks one thing in each drawing. In the interface it only means focus, hover or pressed.
The art keeps its colour
No ink, grain, tint, crop or rotation ever touches a piece. Each piece's own pixels choose its ground: the glitch work on the dark bed, the drawings and the painting on paper.
Absence is drawn
Anything not known yet prints as a rest , never as a guess.
Nothing moves unless asked
Motion starts on request, stops when the tab is hidden and stays off when reduced motion is set. Every page reads without JavaScript.
